Angel investors provide funds or capital to a startup business, in exchange for profit or ownership.

However, there are many celebrities that do take the risk and become angel investors in the hope that it pays off.

Nas

Nasir Jones, a.k.a. Nas has been named the greatest rapper ever by readers of NME.com but that’s not all he’s talented at.

The R&B star is one of the most active celebrity angel investors and business founders.

Subsequently, Nas has co-founded Queensbridge Venture Partners as well as some pretty high-profile startups.

Additionally, Nas provides funding for successful brand like Dropbox, SeatGeek, and Lyft.

As well as investing in top technology companies, Nas has also provided support to Walker & Company Brands created by Tristan Walker.

Serena Williams

Tennis professional, Serena Williams revealed in 2019 that she’d been quietly investing in early stage companies since 2014.

As one of the most active celebrity angel investors, the pro athlete funds over 20 companies such as Tonal, Brandless, and The Wing.

The sports star also invests in the highly successful celebrity teaching platform, MasterClass.

Justin Timberlake

The new king of pop, as described by Rolling Stones, has invested in as well as co-founded the clothing line, WilliamRast.

Along with that, Timberlake previously funded Mirimichi Golf Course in Memphis which he sold in 2014 for a paltry amount of $500,000.

Furthermore, Timberlake also teamed up with Interscope Records in a joint venture as well as founding his own label, Tennman Records.

The singer songwriter also invested a whopping $2 million in the startup app, Stipple.

Timberlake also has an undisclosed sum of shares in Tapulous, a software and video game developer owned by Disney.

Lady Gaga

The musician/businesswoman has established an impressive reputation for funding technology startup businesses.

One of her most noted ventures as a shareholder was with the social networking startup business, Backplane.

Unfortunately for Gaga, the platform where musicians and athletes connected with fans shut down in 2016.

Backplane received funding of approximately $1 million from a group of investors led by Google Chairman, Eric Schmidt.

Jay-Z

The music mogul has been in the industry for over 20 years, but is also a veteran businessman and keen angel investor.

In 2019, Jay-Z invested as well as co-founded Marcy Venture Partners, a marketplace for fashion, food and beverages.

Jay-Z has also backed various startups such as luggage maker, Away and the fintech unicorn, Robinhood.

Ashton Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher is an actor turned entrepreneur with over 70 impressive on-going investments to date.

The star of “Two and a Half Men” focuses specifically on tech startup companies.

Kutcher’s profitable investments include Flipboard, Uber, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Shazam.

In addition, the actor also profits from the highly successful online vacation rental service, Airbnb.

Moreover, Kutcher was also one of the original investors in Skype, before it was bought by Microsoft for $8.5 million.

Kutcher makes his deals either through direct investments or via his own investment firm, A-Grade Investments.
