Many celebrities venture into the investment business, but a specific group of them invest specifically in technology.

The following are nine celebrities who have funded in the profitable market of technology.

Ashton Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher is an actor turned entrepreneur with over 70 impressive on-going investments to date.

Most of his fundings are in highly profitable technology companies.

Moreover, the actor is famous in Silicon Valley for placing early bets on some of technology’s most lucrative companies.

Kutcher’s profitable investments include Flipboard, Uber, Spotify, Soundcloud, Airbnb, Couple, Muse and Shazam.

Moreover, Kutcher was also one of the initial Skype investors, before Microsoft bought it for $8.5 million.

Kutcher arranges his deals either through direct investments or via his own investment firm, A-Grade Investments.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is not only a multi-award winning musician and actor, she’s also a keen technology investor.

One of her most noted ventures as a shareholder in technology was with the social networking startup business, Backplane.

Backplane described themselves as a platform that allowed like-minded people to connect across their shared interests.

Specifically, the company’s aim was to connect athletes and musicians with their fans online.

Backplane received funding of approximately $1 million from a group of investors led by Google Chairman, Eric Schmidt.

Unfortunately for Gaga, the company shut down in 2016.

Evidently, with Instagram taking over, there was no longer a market for Backplane.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is generally regarded as a mere TV personality and Los Angeles socialite.

However, the famous Kardashian proves to be an extremely savvy businesswoman and technology investor.

As well as running her own cosmetics company, KKW Beauty, Kim also invests in her own mobile game, “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.”

According to Glu Mobile, the mobile app gained an impressive revenue of $8.1 million in worldwide player spending.

In addition, Kardashian also co-founded and invests in ShoeDazzle, an online shoe and accessories website.

Moreover, the website recently received an impressive $40-million cash infusion from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

Furthermore, the deal was made by the same firm that funds Facebook, Foursquare, Groupon, Skype, and Twitter.

Jared Leto

An active investor in technology, Jared Leto has backed apps like Headspace, Houseparty, Uber and Airbnb.

The Academy Award-winning actor currently has 50 companies in his investment’s portfolio.

His most notable investment so far is with Blue Bottle Coffee, which Nestlé acquired in 2017 for $700 million.

Tyra Banks

As a result of investing in Fierce Capital, the supermodel turned talk show host and entrepreneur moved on to invest in more technology.

Banks has been an investor in the mobile app, Flixel, which focuses on visual storytelling through cinemagraphs.

In addition, she also invests an online newsletter directed towards female millennials called theSkimm.

Another app that the former supermodel supports is The Muse, an online platform for job hunting that also offer career advice.

Justin Timberlake

The new king of pop has a history of technology investments such as the startup app, Stipple in which he funded $2 million.

However, the app subsequently went out of business after Timberlake decided to take the risk and invest with them.

Timberlake also has an undisclosed sum of shares in Tapulous, a software and video game developer acquired by Disney.

The singer songwriter’s most recent investment is in the fast-growing development of a motion based cradle, Happiest Baby.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is widely know nowadays for her controversial health and lifestyle brand Goop, rather than for her acting.

Subsequently, Paltrow specifically invests in fashion and technology startup companies.

One of her most notable investments includes Daily Harvest, a delivery service for healthy frozen food.

Madonna

The multi-award musician and actor has a history of investments but has specifically backed startups in technology.

Among her many investment ventures, Madonna put her money towards the successful Swedish music streaming service, Tidal.

In 2015, the streaming service came under criticism in for being over-priced for in comparison to other streaming platforms.

However, Madonna quickly fired back in defence.

“We live in a society now where everybody just expects everything to be for free, but you don’t get a house for free” she said.

Moreover, the lucrative music platform was sold for a substantial $200 million in 2016.

Jessica Alba

As well as being the founder of her own eco-friendly company that sells non-toxic products, Jessica Alba also invests in technology.

Her most notable contribution came when she invested in the successful meditation app, Headspace.

The subscription service which was founded in 2010, offers mindfulness exercises priced at at $12.95 per month.
